Fasting: You Cannot Make It Happen

Psalm 35:11,13- "Witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about... When people were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting."

Fasting is a means of getting our minds back on the reality that we are not self-sufficient.  We realize just how powerless we are and how much we depend on things beyond what we can produce.  Our struggle with a simple earthy craving further illustrates how much we need God.

David humbled himself with fasting because of the sick friends and family around him.  He realized that he couldn't do anything about it.  They had questions that he had no idea how to answer.  When times are tough but you realize there is absolutely nothing you can do, that can be an incredibly humbling experience.

Pastors, Staff, and Volunteers:  Do you realize that the results you desire for your church tomorrow (life change, marriages restored, people far from God coming into life in Him, families mended, prodigals returning, next steps taken) are WAY out of your reach?  Do you know that no matter how long you've practiced, how great the delivery is, how fun the kids ministry is, and how big your smile and welcome is when they come in, you STILL can't produce the results that are desired?

We are absolutely powerless when it comes to heart change.  Only God can do that.  Jesus makes it clear that salvation is impossible for man, "but with God, all things are possible."  Let's call out to God tonight and beg him to turn our impossible into His possible as we worship tomorrow!

I'm praying that fasting forces you to lean into God, amplifies your weaknesses, and solidifies in your life desperation for God and your a realization of your inability to produce the desired results in your life without Him.
