Fasting: The Physical is Spiritual

Hebrew 12:3, 12-13: "Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted... Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed."

The author of Hebrews knew that ministry was hard.  Christians would grow weary and fainthearted as they pursued God, and even their physical bodies would take a toll.

Fasting sometimes acts as a detoxification process for us.  Fasting from fast food, unhealthy foods, and bad habits often results in our bodies being strengthened and more prepared for the vigorous work of the Gospel.

I'm praying that as a result of this fast, you'll be keenly aware of the importance of getting away, resting, rejuvenating, and protecting yourself against physical burnout.  If you are always strung out on caffeine, stressed, and overwhelmed physically, then that will render you useless to accomplish the spiritual tasks that God has called you to do.
