Fasting: Set Your Alarm

Deuteronomy 8:11-  "Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey His commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today."

Moses knew that the past faithfulness, provisions, and blessings of God would soon be forgotten by the people as they lived their daily lives.  He challenged them multiple times to "remember," "don't forget," and "think about such things."

When your alarm clock goes off in the morning, it gets your attention and reminds you that it's time to wake up.  Fasting can serve as a spiritual alarm clock.  It gets our attention and reminds us of something.  Hunger pains remind us to pray.  Personal discomfort is a constant reminder to seek God.

It's unfortunate that the Israelites had to be reminded of what God had done for them.  Moses was their alarm clock.  Likewise for us today, we need reminders in our life to slow down, seek God, pray, and remember His faithfulness.

I'm praying that we'll have frequent interruptions in our lives as we remind ourselves of who God is, what He's called us to do, and what He did for us through Jesus.
