Fasting: Close Your Eyes

-Acts 13:3- And when they had FASTED AND PRAYED, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
-Acts 14:23- And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had PRAYED WITH FASTING, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

Fasting is mentioned 69 times in the Bible, and prayer is mentioned with 3x more frequency.  However, fasting is never mentioned outside of the context of prayer and communication with God.  Basically, biblical fasting was inseparable from prayer.

So if you're fasting from food, don't just work through lunch to keep your mind off of how hungry you are.  Spend that time in prayer.  If you're fasting an hour of sleep, don't just go into the office and start your day an hour earlier.  Spend that time in prayer.

I'm praying that our most frequent response to God during this time of fasting would be prayer.  Adoration, confession, thanksgiving, supplication, and even spending time in silence just listening to what God has for us is an imperative during this season of fasting together.
